How to arrive at Saariselkä?
Note! March is the best ski season and the time of Winter holidays in Finland. Despite this, there are only few fights per day to Lapland. Therefore, it is very important to reserve tickets well in time. We recommend you to
make Your flight reservations several months before the Symposium/School.
International flights to Finland.
Several international airline companies, including Finnair, Blue1,
Easyjet and
AirBerlin fly to Finland, mostly only to Helsinki.

Only few airline companies from Europe fly to other cities in Finland. These are the following:
Ryanair
flies from several cities to Tampere.
Wizz
operates between
Gdansk and Turku.
Note also that there are some charter flights to Ivalo (Saariselkä) and/or Rovaniemi from several countries, e.g., from Japan, especially during this hot season. Please inquire this possibility from Your local travel agency.
Travelling in Finland to Saariselkä.
If you come from abroad, the easiest way to arrive to
Saariselkä would be to fly to Ivalo via Helsinki by Finnair or Blue1.
Saariselkä is reached from Ivalo airport by regular bus service in only 20 minutes.
If you choose to fly
to Tampere, Turku or Oulu, You will have to continue Your trip by train (see Finnish railways) or bus.
We recommend You to take a train from Turku and Tampere to Rovaniemi and then from Rovaniemi a bus to Saariselkä (Train and bus are schedule-connected).
Those flying to Oulu can also take a direct bus from Oulu to Saariselkä.

Note that the related distances are still considerable (several hundred km), making the duration of the journey quite long.
Anyway, we can recommend you to consider this option, because
the journey through Finland in Winter time may be an experience as such.
Finnish railways also offers an opportunity to travel by night train.
